Matho Temple – Matho Temple is part of a 500-year-old monastery belonging to the Sakya sect, known for its vibrant annual festival.

Matho Monastery, or Matho Gonpa or Mangtro Monastery or Mangtro Gonpa, from the Tibetan “mang” that means “many” and “tro” that means “happiness”, is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located 26 kilometres southeast of Leh in Ladakh, northern India, on the banks of the Indus River.

This attraction near Leh sits opposite to the famous Thiksey Monastery, near the bank of Indus River. Several structures in this old monastery were in poor condition, and thus in 1970, new assembly hall was built.

How to Reach Matho Monastery?

Matho Village is situated around 26 kms from Leh. One has to first reach the village by a cab or bike and then trek up the hill to reach the Gompa.
