Nubra Valley is one of the most spectacular destinations in Ladakh, known for its unique blend of high-altitude desert landscapes, lush green villages, snow-capped mountains, and the famous cold desert sand dunes. 1. It was once an important Silk Route hub. Traders from Central Asia, Tibet, and Kashmir crossed Nubra Valley with caravans carrying silk, spices, wool, tea, and precious stones.
2. The valley was historically called “Ldumra”, meaning “Valley of Flowers” in the local language because of its fertile fields and abundant wildflowers during summer.
3. It is home to India’s only wild population of double-humped Bactrian camels. These camels are descendants of those used by Silk Route traders and are perfectly adapted to the cold desert climate.

By Air

The nearest airport is Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL) in Leh. Regular flights connect Leh with Delhi, Srinagar, Chandigarh, and a few other major Indian cities. After arriving in Leh, travelers should spend 24–48 hours acclimatizing before continuing to Nubra Valley.
